Walgreens plans to administer COVID-19 vaccine to 3 million people at 35,000 long-term care facilities

Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. said Friday it has begun administering Pfizer Inc.’s and BioNTech SE’s COVID-19 vaccine to residents and staff at long-term care facilities, starting with Connecticut and Ohio. Starting Dec. 21, the drug store chain and health care services company said its pharmacy team members will provide vaccinations at about 800 long-term care facilities across 12 state, with a plan to expand vaccinations to about 3 million residents and staff at 35,000 long-term care facilities, as part of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) vaccination program. The stock, which inched up 0.1% in premarket trading, has dropped 30.7% year to date through Thursday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 6.2%.
