Trump fires Defense Secretary Esper, names Christopher Miller acting secretary

President Donald Trump on Monday said Defense Secretary Mark Esper has been “terminated” and that Christopher C. Miller, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, will be acting secretary of defense, effective immediately. As NBC News reported last week, Esper had prepared a resignation letter and was expected to be pushed out after the election.
