Tech ETFs boosted by chipmaker’s best day in 4 months

Some focused high-tech exchange-traded funds got a boost Thursday as one of their core holdings, a semiconductor company called Synopsis Inc., was one of the day’s biggest gainers even as broad chipmaker ETFs underperformed. Synopsis rallied 6.5% in the early afternoon, one day after reporting earnings, marking its best daily move since April 6, according to FactSet data. The ERShares Entrepreneur 30 ETF [s:ENTR], with 2.1% of its portfolio invested in the company, jumped 1.2%, while the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF was up 1.5%. Meanwhile, the iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF fell more than 0.9%. The broader market rose 0.1%, and the tech-oriented Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.7%. Synopsis’ quarterly earnings were released on the same day as chipmaker behemoth NVIDIA , which gained 0.5% on Thursday.
