U.S. stocks opened mostly lower, but with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index higher, a sign that investors are sticking with their comfort zone as uncertainties about the political landscape and the coronavirus outbreak continue. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 53 points, 0.2%, to open near 27,687, while the S&P 500 lost about 2 points or 0.1%, opening near 3,383. The Nasdaq was trading near 11,269, up 4 points or 0.1%. As the U.S. COVID-19 death toll topped 1,000 for the third straight day, investors sent shares of Pfizer Inc. and other companies with promising vaccine candidates higher.
