Stocks open higher, on track for best week since August on fiscal stimulus hopes

U.S. stocks rose at the start of Friday’s trade as fiscal stimulus negotiations appeared to move towards a more comprehensive package after the White House signaled it was open to a broader deal instead of standalone measures. The S&P 500 rose 0.5% to 3,465. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.5% to 11,481. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 139 points, or 0.5%, to 28,564. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. faltered after The Wall Street Journal reported it was in talks to buy rival chip maker Xilinx Inc.
