U.S. stocks moved higher at the start of Thursday’s session as investors discounted the riots in Washington D.C. and instead looked forward to the potential for more fiscal stimulus under a Democratic-controlled Congress. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 144 points, or 0.5%, to 30,975. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 3,773, surpassing its previous record close of 3,756.07 set on Dec. 31. The Nasdaq Composite gained 1.1% to 12,886. Bath & Beyond Inc. shares rose 0.5% Thursday, after the retailer posted weaker-than-expected sales and profit for its fiscal third quarter.
