Oil ends higher, logs monthly gain

Oil futures ended higher Friday, posting a 2.5% July gain for the U.S. benchmark. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 35 cents, or 0.9%, to end at $40.27 a barrel.
