Coronavirus tally: Daily U.S. death toll more than doubled to over 1,300, new cases topped 43,000

The daily U.S. death toll from the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 more than doubled on Tuesday to at least 1,349, up from 542 deaths on Monday, according to data provided by the New York Times, as new cases increased to 43,226 from 40,022 the day before. As of Wednesday morning, the overall U.S. case tally rose to 5.48 million and the death toll grew to 171,833, the number recovered was 1.90 million, according to Johns Hopkins University data. Outside of the U.S, Brazil is second in both cases and deaths with 3.41 million cases and 109,888 deaths. India is third in cases with 2.77 million and Mexico is third in deaths at 57,774.
