Amazon launches online pharmacy store with discounts for Prime members

/ / News

Amazon.com Inc. said Tuesday it is launching an Amazon Pharmacy online store that will allow customers get medications delivered without leaving their homes. Amazon Prime members will be entitled to free two-day delivery and up to 80% savings on medications when not using insurance. “The same browsing experience customers are familiar with from Amazon makes it easy to discover what medications — including branded and generic versions, and different forms or dosages — are available through Amazon Pharmacy,” the company said in a statement. The new store will complement Amazon’s existing PillPack, a service that helps customers who manage multiple daily medications for chronic conditions. Customers in that category should continue to use PillPack, it said. Amazon shares were slightly lower premarket, but have gained 69% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has gained 12%.
