Alaska Air to block middle seat through November

/ / News

Alaska Air Group Inc. said Monday it is blocking middle seats through Nov. 30, as it looks to extend physical distancing on board its planes. The air carrier said it is also extending its flexible policy for all new ticket purchases through Dec. 31. The announcement comes after Southwest Airlines Co. said last week that it was extending the blocking of its middle seat through Nov. 30. Alaska Air also announced five new routes it plans to fly starting Dec. 17, two out of Los Angeles and three out of Palm Springs, Calif. Alaska Air’s stock, which fell 3.8% in premarket trading, has slumped 39.4% year to date through Friday, while the U.S. Global Jets ETF has dropped 42.4% and the S&P 500 has gained 2.8%.
